Frequently asked questions
Answers to common questions about our process, timeline, and how we work.
What types of companies do you work with? ▼
We specialize in working with operations-heavy teams, founders, and established businesses that have complex workflows. This includes regional distributors, professional services firms, healthcare logistics companies, and B2B SaaS teams. If your business relies on custom software or has unique operational challenges, we're likely a good fit.
How long does a typical project take? ▼
It depends on scope. Discovery and research projects typically take 2–4 weeks. Design-focused work runs 4–8 weeks. A custom web application usually takes 8–16 weeks, depending on complexity. Legacy modernization can run 12–24 weeks because we often need to run in parallel with your existing system. We'll give you a detailed timeline upfront during our initial conversation.
What's your typical budget range? ▼
Projects range from $15K (focused discovery or design work) to $150K+ (custom applications with embedded partnership). Most focused projects fall in the $25K–$60K range. We price based on scope, complexity, and engagement model. We'll discuss your budget expectations early on so we can scope work accordingly.
Do you help with strategy, or just execution? ▼
We do both. We always start with discovery and strategy—understanding your business, users, and constraints—before jumping into design or code. In fact, many clients bring us in specifically for the strategic work. We'll recommend the right engagement model based on your needs, whether that's focused discovery, full design-to-code, or long-term partnership.
What's your collaboration style? ▼
We embed with your team. For focused projects, that typically means weekly check-ins and milestone reviews. For longer engagements, we work closer—daily standups, Slack channels, and shared ownership. We're partners, not order-takers. We push back on bad ideas, celebrate good work, and make sure your team learns from the process.
Do you handle security and compliance? ▼
Yes. We build with security in mind from day one—secure authentication, encryption, audit trails, and compliance logging. We don't claim certifications we don't have, but we follow industry best practices for HIPAA, SOC 2, and GDPR as relevant. If you have specific compliance needs, we discuss those upfront and build them into the design.
What about accessibility and performance? ▼
Accessibility and performance aren't afterthoughts—they're built into our standard process. All applications meet WCAG AA accessibility standards. We optimize for performance across all devices and network conditions. Users should never wait for your software to work; that's our responsibility.
How do you work with existing systems and integrations? ▼
We assess your existing tech stack and integrate with what's already working. Whether it's API integrations, data migrations, or replacing parts of your current system, we plan for minimal disruption. For legacy modernization, we often run your old and new systems in parallel until the team is confident in the transition.
What happens after the software launches? ▼
We don't just hand off and disappear. Every project includes launch support, monitoring, and a post-launch optimization phase. After that, we offer ongoing support packages—monthly check-ins, performance optimization, security updates, and feature development. Your team should feel confident running the software with our team as a trusted partner.
How do you handle working with internal teams that don't have technical expertise? ▼
That's actually most of our work. We specialize in translating business needs into technical solutions that non-technical stakeholders understand. We run workshops, create clear documentation, and provide training so your team can use and eventually maintain the software. Communication without jargon is part of our standard process.
Do you offer retainers or ongoing partnerships? ▼
Yes. We offer both embedded studio team engagements (where our designers and engineers work alongside your team for 6+ months) and ongoing product support (monthly retainers for feature development, optimization, and strategic guidance). Many clients prefer this—having a trusted team you can call on when you need them, without maintaining full-time headcount.
How should we get started? ▼
Start with a conversation. Fill out our contact form or give us a call. Tell us about your project, timeline, and goals. We'll recommend an engagement model, discuss next steps, and send you a proposal. There's no pressure—we just want to understand if we're a good fit for your team.
